Plasma Oscillations in Layered Superconductors

Very soon after publication of the famous BCS work explaining the puzzle of the superconductivity, N.N. Bogolyubov and coworkers [1] have proposed their version of the theory. One of new results they have obtained was the discovery of a collective mode an oscillation of the Cooper pair density with the energy smaller than 2∆. P.W. Anderson has indicated that this collective mode can not be foun...

Quantum terahertz electrodynamics and macroscopic quantum tunneling in layered superconductors.

We derive a quantum field theory of Josephson plasma waves (JPWs) in layered superconductors, which describes two types of interacting JPW bosonic quanta (one heavy and one lighter). We propose a mechanism of enhancement of macroscopic quantum tunneling (MQT) in stacks of intrinsic Josephson junctions. Because of the long-range interaction between junctions in layered superconductors, the calcu...

Surface Josephson plasma waves in layered superconductors above the plasma frequency: evidence for a negative index of refraction.

We predict a new branch of surface Josephson plasma waves (SJPWs) in layered superconductors for frequencies higher than the Josephson plasma frequency. In this frequency range, the permittivity tensor components along and transverse to the layers have different signs, which is usually associated with negative refraction. However, for these frequencies, the bulk Josephson plasma waves cannot be...

Numerical Modeling of Two-Layered Micropolar Fluid Through an Normal and Stenosed Artery

In the present work a two fluid model for blood flow through abnormally constrictedhuman artery (stenosed artery) has been developed. The model consists of a core region of suspensionof all erythrocytes assumed to be micro-polar fluid so as to include the micro-structural effects inaddition to the peripheral-layer viscosity effects, and a peripheral plasma layer free from cells of anykind of Ne...
